What Is Window Film?

Window film is a self-adhesive polyester film that is applied to glass surfaces. It is used as a “retrofit” application for existing glass on cars, homes and commercial buildings in order to upgrade solar control, safety and appearance.

Is Window Film easy to install?

Yes. Your Abode window film order will come with step-by-step instructions. If you follow these, you’ll find it very simple. You can also look at the How to Fit guide on this website so you can get started straight away.

Do I need any specialist tools for fitting the window film?

We supply a small FREE squeegee for smaller jobs but for larger jobs you may wish to buy one of our fitting kits.

Can I use your film in a bathroom?

Yes, you can. Glass film is suitable to use in any room in your house, however we don’t recommend applying it to the inside of shower screens.

What about condensation and heat?

Rest assured that none of the window films we supply is affected in any way by condensation or heat.

What kind of window is the film suitable for?

You can use our window film on any flat, smooth and clean glass surface. Please see the compatibility chart on each individual product page.

Can I make small changes to the designs?

Yes. Please contact us to discuss your requirements. There may be an extra charge for this – but you’ll have the benefit of your own personalised design.

Can I see out of the frosted window film?

You can see out of all of the window films except the frosted films. Where there’s a frosted pattern, you can only see out of the ‘cut-out’ areas of the film.

Is the window film easy to keep clean?

Yes. Simply wipe over with a damp lint-free cloth.

Can I remove the film?

Yes. While it’s durable and hard wearing, our film can also be easily removed. However it can’t be reused once it’s been removed.

How quickly can I expect delivery?

Most orders are despatched within 1-2 working days of receipt of your order, except patterned frosted film which is delivered within 7-10 days.
With our free delivery service, your order should arrive within 2-4 working days.
We also offer an optional next day delivery service for orders received by 1.30pm (except for patterned frosted film, which is delivered within 7 days)

Will the room look darker with window film?

This concern is often more perception than reality. The human eye works like a camera lens. It adjusts to the loss of light and therefore compensates any major changes in light levels received by the brain. Take a look at this table to see how much:

  • Visible light of film 100% – Light perceived by human eye 100%
  • Visible light of film 80% – Light perceived by human eye 80%
  • Visible light of film 60% – Light perceived by human eye 82%
  • Visible light of film 33% – Light perceived by human eye 68%
  • Visible light of film 18% – Light perceived by human eye 55%
  • Visible light of film 14% – Light perceived by human eye 49%
