Window Film - Fitting Made easy
PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY BEFORE UNPACKING OR HANDLING THE WINDOW FILM
Application is NOT RECOMMENDED in the following situations:
- When outside temperatures are below freezing
- In direct sunlight
- To rough glass surfaces
- To any surface that curves in two directions

Tools Required
Washing up liquid, Spray bottle, Squeegee (supplied with film), Craft knife, Glass scraper, Straight edge, Tape measure, Soft lint free cloth. -
Great care
Window Film is a very thin sheet of material that requires handling with great care. Creasing & folding must be avoided. As with aluminium foil, once creased, the film will remain creased & applications need to be carried out in a draught & dust free situation. -
Preparation & Pre-Cleaning
are vitally important & care must be taken to flush any dirt particles out of the window frame. Some airborne dust may get under the film, but this is difficult to avoid completely & it's presence will not affect the performance of the installation. -
Drying
During drying out some haziness will be evident & this will disappear & dry out over a 2-4 week period. -
Cleaning
you would for normal windows but not until 2 weeks after installation & always with a soft leather or cloth and clean water.
To avoid scratching the film with the free squeegee we recommend you wrap a piece of cloth around it first.
DIFFERENT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. WINDOW PREPARATION
- Make up the slip solution in spray bottle
(1 tsp washing up liquid to 1 pint cold water) - Thoroughly wash glass with slip solution & squeegee dry.
- Remove paint, varnish or other foreign matter with a scraper.
- Spray glass with slip solution & squeegee out, checking that the glass surface is very clean & dust free.
2. FILM HANDLING
- Adhesive surface is protected between ‘window film’ and liner
- Window film may be cut to approximate size with a very sharp blade. It is recommended that the film be cut at least 1/2″ longer & wider than he glass. You are now ready to apply the film to the glass.
NOTE: Separate a corner of the ‘window film’ and liner with 2 small pieces of adhesive tape on either side of the product
3. FILM APPLICATION
- Thoroughly wet the glass with the slip solution, this will hold the film in place whilst you remove the clear liner.
- Place film on wet glass with liner facing you. From the ready seperated corner carefully peel off the liner. Spray the adhesive surface generously with the slip solution (you cannot apply too much solution)
- Carefully reverse film on to glass so that the adhesive side is now in contact with the glass.
- Position the film by gently sliding on wet surface and smoothing out large air bubbles. Ensure all glass area is covered by the film
4. SQUEEGEE TECHNIQUE
- Spray the film with the slip solution to give slip for the squeegee.
- The first stroke should be horizontal across the top of the window.
- The next stroke should be downwards from one edge with succeeding strokes working down and away from the first strokes.
- On final squeegee of the top & bottom edges the squeegee may be pushed towards the edges to remove any excess water.
- If a particle is trapped behind the film, carefully lift the film from the nearest corner & remove the particle. Before replacing the film, spray sufficient slip solution to thoroughly wet the glass & film. Replace the film & re-squeegee.
5. FILM TRIMMING
- Using a straight edge (should have about 1/8″ thickness), place it on end the edge of the window
- Trim the film using a razor blade of craft knife so that there is a margin width of the straight edge of about 1/8″
- Repeat for each edge of the window
- After trimming remove excess film.
- Repeat entire squeegee procedure.

Application Instructions
Step 1.
Clean glass thoroughly, as described above.
Step 2.
Position the transfer on the glass & tape down one edge to act as a hinge.
Step 3.
Carefully remove the backing
paper from the transfer. This is the side that has lots of print on it. If the film does not come away from the backing properly, lay it on a flat surface and rub over the transfer tape with pressure and try again.
Step 4.
Spray a coat of the soapy solution onto the glass & transfer, you only need to use this method when applying large transfers.
Step 5.
Press from the centre outwards with the plastic squeegee until the transfer is applied to the glass. Rub over the application tape a few more times with the squeegee, adding more pressure each time.
Step 6.
Remove the application tape slowly & carefully. If you’ve used the soapy solution you must let the fluid dry first, it’s best to leave it overnight before removing the application tape.
VEHICLE TINTING, APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
What you will need for fitting the film?
- A Sharp Knife (Craft Knife, Scalpel or Similar) and a plastic scraper.
- A Spray bottle filled with clean water and a drop of washin up liquid or baby shampoo. Use a very small amount or the film will slide around on the glass too much.
- Soapy Water, a Squeegee & Lint Free Cloth to clean both the inside and outside of the windows before you start.
Fitting Instructions
- Ensure that you carry out your installation in a warm, still and dust free environment. If you undertake your installation outside you will attract dust and dirt particles.
- Lay the film on the outside of the windows that you want to cover and cut it to the approximate shape and size
- Ensure the film is the correct way up: adhesive side, still covered by the protective film layer, to the outside.
- If your windows are curved you may need to heat the film gently with a normal hairdryer and adjust it to the curves.
- Start from the middle and work outwards towards the edge in small stages, smoothing with the edge of your hand or a cloth.
- Clean the windows from the inside and outside.
- Get in a position that is comfortable and where you have as good as possible access to the inside of the glass which are about to treat. Ensure that everything required is close to hand.
- Apply a small strip of adhesive tape to either side of the film in one corner. Slowly pull apart the two adhesive strips.
- The clear protective film layer will lift from the window tint film.
- Practice this first with a small offcut (use a piece from the trimmed material).
- While pulling the protective liner from the auto tint film, immediately spray the self-adhesive film with the liquid mix of soap and water from the spray bottle.
- Spray the windows with the soap and water solution.
- Adjust the pre-cut and sprayed-in film on the wet window. Spray the outside of the film so that the scraper won't scratch the surface of the film.
- Remove the water below the film as well as little bubbles that may have occurred by wiping the surface of the film with the plastic scraper wrapped in lint free cloth.
- When you are happy that the film has adhered correctly to most of the window, cut the film along the edges of the window. Cut 1-2 mm from the very edge in order to allow water to escape during the next process.
- Using the plastic scraper, wrapped in lint free cloth, go around the outer edges of the film forcing the remaining water out.
- Wipe around the edges to remove excess water.
- If you wish when you are certain the film has dried sufficiently you may want to go around the edges with clear nail polish to seal. This is particularly useful on windows.
FAQ's For Vehicle Installation
My windows are curved / arched. How do I fit the film?
You may select either of these two ways to tint arched windows:
Method 1 – Segmenting:
You tint the window in several segments and cut out any overlaying material of film with one or more cuts. This is probably the easiest way.
Method 2 – Heating:
Firstly, lay the film on the outside of the window and cut it roughly to the size of the window (leave spare film enough on the sides).
Ensure the film is laid with the adhesive side pointing outside. After cutting the film, lay it on the outside of the window again and heat it up carefully with a hair dryer while you sweep over it with your hand to adjust/form it to the curves of the window.
If it fits well to the window, remove the protective layer of the film while spraying it with water and fit it to the sprayed-in window from the inside. Carefully wipe out the water and any bubbles under the film and then cut film at the edges
to fit exactly to the window.
How do I tint the side windows?
With closed windows:
Normally small sections at the top and on the sides will remain uncovered, as a small part of the window is covered by the rubber when cutting the film.
You may wish to open the window a little while cutting the film and cut at the very edge with the blade at an angle to create a bevel.
Unfortunately, the film may be pushed back if closing the window before the film is completely dry and through repeated use.
You can limit this by leaving the window ajar until dry and sealing with clears nail varnish.
An alternative is to take the window out of the door, apply the film outside the car and then re-fit.

How do I tint the heated rear window?
The film is fitted from the inside (covering the heating wires).
When cutting the film, be sure not to damage any wires. We recommend cutting the film to exact size on heated rear windows prior to fitting it to the window.
